A great place to come and get home made Okinawan food- for cheap. Asahi is located in Aichi, Ginowan. The Shokudo has a clean and comfy feel, like someone remodeled their living room into a restaurant. It must have only opened recently because the restaurant seems quite new.
Coming to Asahi quite often, my friends and I have our favorite dishes. I like the Subuta Bowl set. The sweet and sour pork on rice, with cabbage salad and warm soup hits the spot! The taste is strong and rich but not too salty. I don’t like to eat too much, so even though the portion is quite big, it is one of the smaller ones on the menu. My Japanese friends actually like the Soba and Gyudon (Beef bowl) sets more. But the most loved ones are the Fried rice and Omurice platters.
For only 700Yen you can get a humongous Fried rice tray, which is three times larger than a normal sized dinner plate. The egg rice is topped with a sliced up juicy Tonkatsu patty. My friend ordered it and loved it but couldn’t finish it all. He said it was worth every Yen, especially because he was able to pack up the rest and eat it the next day for lunch.
The home-made dishes are super delicious and you can eat a lot for a cheap price. The dishes range from 300 to about 800Yen and fill you up. Check it out!
